The Movie Picker attacks the problem by deciding the genre for you. Once the wheel says thriller, you are choosing between a handful of thrillers instead of an entire catalog, which is a much smaller decision.

The eight preset genres cover most tastes, but the wheel is editable. Replace genres nobody in the room watches, or go further and type in the specific titles from your own watchlist so the spin picks the exact film. Horror easily removed for family night; documentary easily removed for a party.
