Streaming menus offer thousands of titles, and research on choice overload suggests that more options often make picking harder, not easier. The Movie Picker attacks the problem by deciding the genre for you. Once the wheel says thriller, you are choosing between a handful of thrillers instead of an entire catalog, which is a much smaller decision.

The eight preset genres cover most tastes, but the wheel is editable. Replace genres nobody in the room watches, or go further and type in the specific titles from your own watchlist so the spin picks the exact film. Horror easily removed for family night; documentary easily removed for a party.

Horror
The most divisive entry, so cut it before spinning if anyone in the room is out. When it does win, starting early matters more than it does for any other genre.
Animation
Not only for children, and it spans the widest age range of anything here. That makes it the practical winner when the audience is mixed across generations.
Documentary
Good for a night when nobody wants fiction, and easy to abandon guilt-free if it does not hold you. Often the shortest option on the wheel.

Can I put actual film titles on instead of genres?

Yes, and it is the better use of the tool if you keep a watchlist. Replace the eight genres with eight specific titles and the spin ends the decision completely, with no browsing afterwards. Anything from three to fifteen titles works well on one wheel.

How do we stop getting the same genre every week?

Switch on remove-winner mode and each genre drops off once it has been drawn, so you work through all eight before anything repeats. Reset when the wheel empties. The spin history also shows what has come up recently, which is handy for a film club tracking coverage.
