About this tool

About the Movie or Series

The slowest part of a streaming night is not watching — it is the forty minutes of scrolling before anything plays. A lot of that scrolling happens because the format is undecided: a two-hour movie is a different evening from "a couple of episodes". Flip this coin before you pick up the remote and you cut the browsing space in half instantly.

Movie means committing to one complete story tonight; Series means comfort viewing, an ongoing plot, or finally starting the show everyone keeps recommending. Once the coin has picked the format, choosing the actual title is a much smaller problem — and the Movie Picker wheel can handle that part if the scroll paralysis comes back.

Four quick steps

How to use it

  1. Flip the coin before opening any streaming app.
  2. Movie: pick one film and commit to the full runtime.
  3. Series: continue a current show or start a new one — no format guilt.
  4. Still can't pick a title? Send the decision to the Movie Picker wheel.

Starting options

What the two sides mean

The coin is picking the shape of your evening, not the title: one complete story or an ongoing one you already know.

Movie
A single sitting with a beginning and an end, usually ninety minutes to three hours. Want this when the evening is clear and something on the watchlist keeps getting postponed.
Series
Episodes, whether that is one before bed or four in a row. The side you want when your attention is patchy or you are mid-season and already invested.

Useful moments

Good for

  • End couch negotiations when one person wants a film and the other wants episodes.
  • Decide solo nights faster than the recommendation algorithm can.
  • Set the format for movie night with friends before the group chat spirals.
  • Ration a limited evening: series if you have an hour, movie if the coin insists.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

The coin said Movie but nothing on my list appeals. Now what?

Load the Movie Picker wheel with your actual shortlist and spin that. The coin settled the format; narrowing thirty candidate films is a different job and a wheel handles it better. Tonight's format is also not binding, so tomorrow starts from a clean flip.

Can two of us use one flip fairly when we disagree?

Yes, and it lands better than one person deciding. Agree out loud which face means what before you tap, then flip once and take the result. If a single flip feels too arbitrary for a whole evening, best-of-three makes the winning side prove it twice.

Can I change the sides to something other than Movie and Series?

Both faces are editable, so Documentary and Comedy, Cinema and Sofa, or Subtitles and No Subtitles all work. The renamed coin saves locally in your browser, meaning it still reads the way you left it next time you open the page on that device.

Does the animation decide the outcome?

No. The result comes from the browser's cryptographic random number generator and is fixed before the flip animation begins, so how long you watch or when you tap changes nothing. The spinning coin is presentation for a decision that has already been made.
